Honeybee Sketch
It's October and the nights are drawing in. I'm experiencing a mix of feelings as I see signs that nature is preparing for another winter. It feels lovely to wrap up warm on a cold windy day, but I'm always sad to say goodbye to sunny days and abundant wildlife. This is the time of year when beekeepers start preparing their hives for the winter, extracting the last of the surplus honey and ensuring that the colonies have enough stores to last until next Spring. I've been lucky enough to help some very experienced beekeepers as they carry out their final hive inspections for the year. I'm excited for next year when I can set up my own hives, but right now I'm feeling impatient and just want to get started! I made this quick sketch while curled up on the sofa one rainy evening, enjoying a thick wedge of toast with honey and daydreaming about warmer days. I'm planning to make a scarf out of this design, so that no matter how cold the weather gets, I'll always be reminded that sunny days are just around the corner.
