Competition Terms & Conditions

Requirements of entry

Your fabric design must be sewing themed. This could include sewing supplies, sewing stitches, tailor’s dummies, sewing room pictures, sewing machines, garment or project related designs – anything that is obviously sewing related.

IMPORTANT – Your design must be a unique design and not breach anyone’s copyright. By entering the competition you confirm this and accept liability for any copyright breaches.

The competition is limited to entries from the UK and Ireland only due to the cost of shipping the main prize out of the UK.

Prizes

Top Prize - Keen to support budding designers Brother have kindly offered the beautiful Innov-is 10a as a prize for the winner. This machine is simple to use and features 16 stitches, including 3 style of buttonholes plus it would look fab in any sewing room! To use with your new sewing machine we will be sending the winner 3 metres of their winning design printed on fabric. What’s more Sewing World will be featuring the winning design in their magazine which will be great exposure for the winner. The winner will also be interviewed on The Sewing Directory website.

Runners Up Prizes - There will also be 4 runners up prizes of 2 metres of fabric per runner up, printed with their design. The runner up designs will also be featured in Sewing World.

How To Enter

You do not need to be a designer to enter, Woven Monkey have written some tutorials on how to use free design software to create your fabric design. You can also draw or paint it and scan it onto your computer, this can result in a loss of quality so make sure you preview your design on the Woven Monkey site before entering.
All entries should be submit via the Woven Monkey website using this link: http://www.wovenmonkey.com/competition
When you upload you will get the option to choose your layout, you can put your design on repeat, half drop, half brick, mirror, or centre. Do see their site for more information. The file specifications are below, you need to make sure that:

  • i) Your file is less than 30MB
  • ii) The image resolution is at least 150 DPI
  • iii) The colour profile is RGB, not CMYK
  • iii) The file has been created in one of the following formats: JPEG, PDF, EPS, AI, TIFF, SVG & PNG

Judging

Representatives of Sewing World, Brother and The Sewing Directory will all be judging the designs by allocating a number of points to each design.  The design with the highest points score will be the winner.  In the event of a tie break we will call in a fabric designer Nel Whatmore to have the final vote. 

Important Dates

Deadline – All entries must be received by midnight on Monday 30th June 2014. Late entries will not be accepted. 

Winner’s announcements - Both the winner and runners up will be announced in the October issue of Sewing World, on sale the 19th of September. The following Monday (the 22nd) the winners will be announced online on The Sewing Directory website – www.thesewingdirectory.co.uk.

Further Information

Employees of any of the companies involved in this competition are not permitted to enter. All entries must be submitted via the Woven Monkey website by midnight 30th June 2014 to be entered. Late entries will not be accepted. Competition entrants must live in the UK or Ireland. The winners will be chosen by a voting panel of judges, the judge’s decisions are final.
Your fabric design must be sewing related and must be an original design not breaching anyone else’s copyright. Any liability for breach of copyright rests with the designer not the companies hosting this competition. Entrants are limited to one design each, multiple entries are not permitted. By entering the competition you give The Sewing Directory, Brother, Woven Monkey and Sewing World permission to publish your design on their websites, social media and in print.
