I created this design from my admiration for the beauty of bugs and beetles that are not considered gorgeous...I wanted to create a pattern that was fresh, relevant and eye catching but on closer inspection you realise it’s made up of flies, butterflies and cicada beetles! I also chose to use the mirrored pattern repeat like the classic William Morris designs as it made the critters look more randomly placed. I first painted the elements with water colour before scanning them to my iPad and sharpening, mixing and placing in pro-create.
